Community Involvement & Local Resources

From the start the Overton Funeral Home has been a community leader. Art "Doc" Overton helped start the Islip Chamber of Commerce in 1923. For years the Overton Funeral Home has made awards and donations to many civic organizations, as well as provide a scholarship to a graduating senior of Islip High School. The Overton Family are personally involved with various organizations and groups within the community, and our funeral home is a proud sponsor of local programs and charities.

They belong to the Islip and Bay Shore Chambers of Commerce, the Nassau-Suffolk Funeral Directors Association, the New York State Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. The funeral home is a regular supporter of North Shore-LIJ Southside Hospital, our local branches of the American Legion, Disabled Veterans, Hospice, the Masons, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, the Eastern Star, all of our local places of worship, as well as the Islip, East Islip, Great River, and Bay Shore Fire Departments. Wayne is an ex-chief of the Islip Fire Department, the first chairman of the board of the Hospice of the South Shore, past commander of the Great South Bay Power Squadron and a past president of the Islip Chamber of Commerce. Lois is on the board of directors of the Islip Public Library. Both Lois and Wayne are members of the Bay Shore Lions Club. Eric is on the Board of Directors of both the Islip Rotary Club and the Historical Society of Islip Hamlet. He is former President and board member of the Islip Chamber, an active member of the Islip Republican Club, and the Islip Fire Department. He is also a former vestryman at St. Mark's Episcopal Church as well as a part time employee of the Town of Islip Parks & Recreation Department. Wayne, Nancy, Eric and Michael are all Notaries Public, as well.
